Why do we have a farm?

We decided that we did not enjoy or want to eat food that is raised according to commercial standards. The USDA has allowed large corporations to corrupt the meaning of pasture-raised animals. For example, they allow birds to be raised in a building that is open, possibly at one end, for a few hours. If a chicken wants to leave their food and water to meander through the other chickens to access grass, they can, however, it is estimated most don’t. These animals are considered pasture raised according to USDA guidelines.

Over 70% of pork is raised in a stall, typically 5’x3’. These pigs eat, drink, and defecate in this stall with slats that allows their waste to flow out of the building.

We decided that if we could not eat meat that is humanely raised where the animal can be in its natural habitat, we don’t want to eat meat. As a result, we have a farm allowing the pigs to run, root, and express their pigness. Chickens and turkeys can roam, fly, eat bugs, and soak up the outside air.

All our animals have access to grass, bugs, nuts, and certified organic feed. The quality of what they eat affects their meat. Our meat is nutrient dense with flavor and humanely raised.
